**FLU ALERT**

January 16, 2108

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We are receiving reports of influenza for all grade levels. We are encouraging students to wash their hands often and maintenance is being diligent in their cleaning efforts.  Additionally, we recommend the following tips to keep our students, staff and families as healthy as possible:

* WASH YOUR HANDS OFTEN. This is the number one way to prevent the spread of infection.  Use friction for 15-20 seconds and rinse well.

*PLEASE STAY HOME if you or your child feels ill or has a fever.  This also will help limit the spread of germs.  The school policy allows return to school after 24 hours without a fever.

*GET PLENTY OF REST. Sleep rejuvenates our immune systems. Children between the ages of 5 and 12 years-old need 9 – 11 hours of sleep a day (may include naps).

*EAT PLENTY OF HEALTHY FOODS.  Fruits and vegetables have lots of vitamins that keep our bodies healthy.

*DRINK PLENTY OF FLUIDS. It is important to stay hydrated.

Thank you for your help in keeping our kids as healthy as possible.  Please call the health office if you have any questions or concerns at 861-2821.

Thank you in advance,

Courtney Herlihy RN, BSN, x104
Janice Tice RN, BSN, x707
