No Summer Camp

With sincere disappointment, we announce Dennis Township Schools will not hold summer camp this year.  This decision comes after many hours spent exploring the possibilities in creating a fun yet safe environment for our campers.

Many factors weighed in as part of our decision. First and foremost, was the safety of our students and counselors. Keeping everyone safe during a camp-like atmosphere remains a serious challenge. We also considered the lack of field trip possibilities, which our campers have come to expect and love. Finally, we were forced to keep in mind the changes and/or additions our schools may need to be ready for the much anticipated and hoped for September opening of school.  We are anticipating guidance requiring building modifications to open school on time.  We do not yet know what will be required, yet we must be prepared to implement these changes over the summer.  Unfortunately, the extra cleaning and management necessary to hold camp during this time of social distancing, combined with the preparations necessary to start school, could tax our maintenance/custodial staff and resources beyond our capabilities.  In addition, it is clear, preparing for a safe, successful opening of school must remain our first priority.

I want to thank our Business Administrator, Paige Rumaker, and Hideaway Camp co-coordinators Nicole DelCorio and Robert Nevitt for the work they put in as they tried to create a plan that would make camp a possibility for our students.  Their efforts are much appreciated.  We look forward to the wonderful things they will plan for our students next summer.
